Kids in the Hall on Capital

This video is so excellent, not just for being hilarious, but for being a really excellent and surrealistic allegory for capital.  The choice of having the workers clearly producing nothing useful, means that they’re only producing exchange value (value for the capitalist).  Yet, the workers are caught by the commodity fetish (“We cared about how we stuck our arms motionless in a vat of dead fish!”)  The capitalist being controlled by a rat running in a wheel says a lot about how even the capitalists themselves don’t have control over their own behavior, but must participate in the endless system of “accumulation for the sake of accumulation; production for the sake of production.”  There’s just so much going on in this short clip.

  1. I don’t think I ever saw that one! I’ve got the boxed set too, time to start watching it.
